During the war Harry Brearley invented stainless steel. Brearley researched stainless steel when he was asked to come up with a metal that would not corrode the inside of guns when they were fired. Stainless steel was not only used for the war but was used in the home. The invention was first invented as an improvement to weapons during the war but found its way into many commercial products throughout the war.
