The Grenade

During the first world war soldiers needed an effective mean of clearing out trenches. To fill this need the grenade was developed a few years into the war. The grenade was at first a modified cannon ball with a fuse attached to it. this was then replaced by the modern grenade we know today. At first the grenade was plagued with design flaws. the two main flaws were faulty fuses and complicated arming processes. some grenades were first made with five step arming and were commonly not fully armed when thrown. The fuses on many of these would often not go off, littering the battle fields with unarmed and dud grenades.
